Tour Cambridge 2007

Hier een wedstrijdverslag van de wedstrijd op zondag tegen de Cambridge Exiles, het vierde team van Cambridge RUFC. Het is geschreven door “Jesse” James Green – speler van Cambridge:

Exiles drew 36-36 vs Enschede Touring Side.

Match report: The Exiles drew against our Dutch friends from Enschede.

The Easter weekend saw the Exiles host a Dutch touring side from
Enschede. Led by their captain, Ruud Stolk, the tourists arrived at
3pm on Easter Friday and were welcomed at the club by Jesse, Warren and
Jim Patterson. We were then treated to an evening’s entertainment where
we realised that we were hosting not only the most sociable side in the
world but also a side that was completely comfortable holding their
drink.

On Saturday they played Cantabs 1sts/2nds and lost the first half
heavily but drew the second half as the alcohol burnt off. Ryan Page
and Jonathan Madden were then subjected to an evenings entertainment
with the latter being held captive for the night at our club.

On Sunday at 3pm the Exiles kicked off against Enschede and led by a
couple of tries at half time. At the break we swapped the odd
numbers/players over and half the side played in Enschede shirts. The
game finished 36-36 and our thanks to the ref for keeping the game open
and flowing.

After the game Jesse announced his retirement from club rugby, although
he is still available for selection at the World Cup if required.
Warren Page took over the captaincy of the Exiles for 2007-2008,
assisted by Adam Hickin.

We swapped shirts with our Dutch friends and then took them on a pub
crawl around Cambridge, finishing at the Trailer of Life and then 22.
Warren Page did us proud as the new Exiles Captain. He may have lost
the “mirrors game” in the Anchor against Ruud but everyone was impressed
when he finished the game with his pants on his head.

We look forward to seeing our hosts again sometime soon and we are
grateful that the clubhouse is still intact. Everything is open for a
return tour to Enschede but realistically we might have to team up with
Cantabs or the Vanguards to get enough players to go along. Speak to
Warren/Adam if you are interested.

All the best…..Jesse
